Rice Husk/Hulls
Rice Husk/Hulls are used for filtering out longer chain amino acids and proteins out of adjunct heavy beers. This helps with avoiding the protein haze and clarity issues.
PRODUCT INFO
Rice hulls were once used mostly with wheat beers but now these are considered essential in all homebrew recipes. It's a classic component of every brewer's cabinet.
Instructions for Use:
- Rice hulls come straight from farms so it's important to wash them twice to get rid of any dust and debris before utilising them. Occasionally you may find a piece of straw or farm debris that you want to remove by hand.
- No harm in using too much rice hulls however using more than required brings no better results. You can save the wastage by using about 100-200 grams per 10 Liters of your batch judging adjuncts(malts/grains other than barley) are less than 40% of total grist. If the the adjunct ratio is larger, use 50g hulls per pound of extra adjuncts you are planning to put in.
- Always use rice hulls whilke mashing and not when boiling the wort. Boiling can break down some the hulls and leech excess tannins and biterness in your brew - not always desirable.
- Use upto 100g in a 10 liter batch.
- Doesn't impart any flavours or colour
- Long shelf life
- Prevent's stuck mashes
- Great efficiency can be achieved if used with Mash-tuns
